Mac vs PC PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mike Palumbo

When a company builds a car, they design it first, sketch it, mold it, and then engineers figure out how to make the innards work within the space they are given. Computers are the opposite. Engineers create function and then designers are asked to make it comprehensible to the average person. It’s an interesting reversal because with the car, drivers are often disappointed to find some function lacking and curse the engineers, whereas computers users are often frustrated after hours of searching for a function only to curse the designers when they find it, wondering “who put it there?”

Design is always done with a target audience in mind. Apple targets three groups of people, art and design professionals, music and video professionals, and the general consumer user.

Regarding the first two groups, we’ve reached a day and age where all the professional software to do graphics, audio and video is made for both PC and Mac, however that wasn’t always the case. Apple capitalizes on the bias that was created at the time. Despite the inaccuracy, many of those professionals still believe you have to have a Mac to do those jobs.  Additionally, Apple designs their interface and even the outward hardware to appeal to people who appreciate design. It’s slick, shiny, and expensive, not unlike buying a sports car.

Truck Amuck PDF Print E-mail

I bought a newer truck and have been trying to sell the old one. I wasn't driving it much and the battery kept dying. Apparently, the computer draws power so I have to run it a couple of times a week to keep it charged. So I've been doing that for a month or more now.

This morning I get in the truck and start up my road which goes around a curve and up a hill. Just up on top of the hill I take my foot off the accelerator and nothing happens.

I'm still cruising.

I remember that they say you should push a stuck accelerator more to try and unstick it. I do that and it goes to the floor but doesn't come up.

Now I really moving!

Twice Out! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mike Palumbo
So I let my 3.5 year old watch this video.

I screened it before hand and determined that there was nothing bad about it, I figured he'd enjoy the way they can bounce the ping pong ball so far and accurately. He did, and of course he wanted to see it over and over again. Now he runs around the house throwing ping pong balls all over with what seems to be intense focus (though he could care less where they land). Then he celebrates with an emphatic whoo hoo! and throws two fingers out to your face in a gangsta style peace-out. But since they don't say anything when they make this sign, he's added his own. He throws the ball, throws two fingers out, and yells "Twice!"

Kids today and their new slang.

Twice Dude! Twice Out!

And finally, the world continues its fascination with bubblewrap:

Never be without bubblewrap again!

Still it's the whispering voice that you hear when you ask for a fresh sheet that really creeps me out.
